Dear Books…

Dear Books,

We have had a long love affair so far and I hope that we have many years to go. I know that in my life time I will never get to read everything on my ever growing list but I will have so much fun trying.

We’ve had many adventures together and over the years you have made me laugh, made me cry and kept me up at night promising myself ‘just one more chapter’ before sleeping. I have so many fond memories of my mum reading to me and then later me reading to my mum, bringing home books from school with anticipation of what they contained.

When I didn’t feel I had a place in the world I could always rely on you and I’ve spent many hours browsing in book shops and libraries. The day I turned 13 I was overjoyed with the thought that I could finally get a ‘grown up’ library card and take eight books home with me. I’ve spent my life dreaming about  having my own library with floor to ceiling shelves filled with amazing books, and I’m working on it one book case at at time.

I am happy that you have your own special day and that there are kids out there who discovering the joy of reading. There are so many exciting stories out there for them to discover and enjoy, so many characters for them to fall in love with and hopefully a lifetime of books.

Sunday Smiles

Things that are making me smile this Sunday…

Carrot Cake

I’ve recently been trying to get back into baking and cooking food from scratch when I can around work. Today I made a carrot cake from Lorraine Pascale’s ‘Baking Made Easy’ and I can’t wait to try it.

Climate Week at Annie Greenabelle

In support of Climate Week 2013 (4-10 March), ethical fashion brand Annie Greenabelle will be offering 25% off their carbon friendly range. The various elements of the production of their organic cotton jersey range all take place within 20 miles of their HQ in order to be friendly to the environment.

The Nu Project

The Nu Project is a project which was started back in 2005 by photographer Matt Blum, and features a collection of nude portraits of women from all over the world following a brief of no professional models, minimal makeup and no glamour shots. Blum credits his wife Katy, who is now editor of the project, with helping to create project in its current state.

To date, over 150 women have participate in the project and they are mostly photographed in their own homes. This allows a really relaxed and natural feeling to the images. The images are beautiful and feature so many different women that it is truly refreshing and I love that Matt refers to the images as ‘honest’ nudes, and stays away from the dreaded ‘normal’.

For more info and to see Matt’s photos vist thenuproject.com (and just in case you haven’t guessed, this site contains nudity so you may not want to open the link in work).

Happy Sunday …

Street Style Inspired Style Steal

I really love looking at what other people wear especially when I feel like I am stuck in a rut. Looking at how others choose to style a piece can inspire you to look at clothes you already own with a fresh pair of eyes.

One of my favourite places to look for fashion inspiration is the Company website. As well as some great street style pictures, they also regularly share what their staff wear to work (and they are a really stylish bunch).

I love this look from LFW so much that I decided to recreate it for my first Style Steal post for while…
